Ngigu is an Umic language in the Ngerupic family spoken by about 268,000 people in Akulanen.

-- Implosives /ɓ ɗ ɠ/ are often realized as [b d g], which are the voiced stops in Awatese.
-- Ngigu /ʃ/ is sometimes realized as Awatese [s].
-- Vowel hiatus is often removed, with vowel sequences being treated as polyphthongs and and the tone of the first vowel assimilating into those of the following vowels, and /i/ and /u/ are semivowels [j] and [w]
