Menu 1. do - 'at' 2. a - 'of' 3. o - 'of' 4. geda - 'in regards to, concerning, in terms of, for' 5. scanto - 'due to, because of' As with many languages, the usage of prepositions and particles does not line up perfectly with English. The below list details prepositions, particles, adverbs, any other small function words that differ in connotation or usage from the typical English application. Note that all prepositions will inflect for personal pronouns or combine into mandatory contractions with the definite articles "siáe/sié"

[edit] [top]do - 'at'

Do is used for both physical and temporal meanings of 'at'. It also encompasses any meaning of being in a location - so English phrases of "I'm in the mall", "at the store", "on a hill" would be rendered with do.

I'm at the store, what do you want (from here)? Bas dóis art, vos ciáecrunéis daen? I'll get there at noon. Navastac do otiígión.
[edit] [top]a - 'of'
A is one of the two genitive particles. A is used for alienable possession, meaning the object in question can be owned by something else. A is typically used with all material objects, as well as anything that could be analyzed as semantically temporary. A (and o, detailed in the next section) both supplanted the original genitive forms of the pronouns, so 'my' can be translated as ac or oc, dependent on meaning.
This is my book because I bought it. Ab siâig lebaer ac, caös neotan ne. Have you seen my sister's dog? Scaoléins siáe maec a pavaon oc?
[edit] [top]o - 'of'
O is the other genitive particle, used for inalienable possession - the possessed object cannot be transfered to another owner. Body parts, family members, attributes (such as a nation's GDP, a tree's trunk, a house's window, etc), parts of a whole (like piece of a pie, a block of a city, a gear of a watch), and certain grammatical structures (to be explained in another article) all take o.
I bought some flowers for my mother. Neotan núis 'píis ca haem oc. The tree's leaves are still growing. Siím croans sié píit óis laom.
[edit] [top]geda - 'in regards to, concerning, in terms of, for'
Geda has a loose definition in English, including:
      - in regards to
      - concerning
      - pertaining to
      - in terms of
      - for
      - as for
For a dancer, he's pretty clumsy. Geda tantsaeg, mam di u setráind. In terms of being weird, they're the same person. Geda febtoc, ban li samac.
[edit] [top]scanto - 'due to, because of'
Scanto commonly functions as both a preposition and a conjuction. As a preposition, it is used as a less forceful way of stating a causative. As a conjuction, it functions almost identically to English 'because of' or 'due to'.
Due to hearing [that], the sheep fled to the plain. Scanto haliat, boaen siáen av aéis lepre. We left the game because of the storm. Hentarom siáe cartaelort scantóis tromaen.
