[comments] Vowel harmony in Proto-Ulokakhian is very fascinating. They all overlap with each other. There is not a single group that doesn't overlap on another. In fact, all vowels can be a group of harmonic vowels.
There are eight harmony groups. These are:
•/i/ group consisting of /i/,/e/ and /ɨ/
•/ɨ/ group consisting of /ɨ/,/i,/e/,/u/ and /o/
• /u/ group consisting of /u/,/ɨ/ and /o/
•/o/ group consisting of /o/,/ɨ/,/u/,/ɑ/ and /ä/
•/ɑ/ group consisting of /ɑ/,/o/ and /ä/
•/ä/ group consisting of /ä/,/ɑ/,/a/ and /e/
•/a/ group consisting of /a/,/ä/ and /e/
•/e/ group consisting of /e/,/a/,/ä/,/i/ and /ɨ/
Because of the overlapping properties, this allows poets to switch between harmony groups, yet still remain harmonic. An example of this is the poem 'Hunting' by Susmor:
'Baa eu, baa in,
Yek baa men e,
Baa,lasquqlif,
Lur tso eu ho.'
In this poem,i is in the /e/ group,so he shifted to e,then back to i.
