Introduction
In the Modern Tongue, verbs are used to describe an action, a state or occurrence. All verbs are regular and are conjugated in accordance with mood, tense, and voice, and in agreement to person and number. There are three groups of verbs, classified by the inflecting endings "-er", "-or" and "-ur" of their infinitive forms.
Unlimited Mood
The unlimited mood is characterised by being non-conjugated forms of the verbs. Similarly to English, they are classified in the following way:
First Category
Language | Form | Infinitive | Past Participle | Present Participle | Gerund |
English | to be | been | being | being |
Modern | ser | seír | seár | searn |
Second Category
Language | Form | Infinitive | Past Participle | Present Participle | Gerund |
English | to go | gone | going | going |
Modern | gor | goír | goár | goarn |
Third Category
Language | Form | Infinitive | Past Participle | Present Participle | Gerund |
English | to do/make | done/made | doing/making | doing/making |
Modern | dur | duír | duár | duarn |
Infinitive forms of verbs can be used as nouns. Sentences such as "de yrher sel göedve" can be interpreted as "laughing is good" or "to laugh is good", and the subject-object order can be reversed for poetic effect. Past participles are not interchangeable with adjectives, but can work in a similar way. "She is well-fed" can be translated as
