Before the first queen of Zirika ascended the throne, before the adoption of a standardized siren calendar, and before the widespread use of a single writing system throughout the siren world, the country that would come to be known as Zirika existed as three more-or-less independent regions, called Tasja, Bioko, and Ten.

Each country had its own culture, own religions, own language. And, though they didn't quite live in harmony, the countries managed to coexist with minimal bloodshed, perhaps because they viewed the world beyond their islands as a larger threat. When our story begins, Tasja and Bioko had been trading peacefully long enough that the Biokasi invited some merchants from Tasja into their holy city, Ama-Aru (now called Amaaru).

This would come to be a mistake.

See, the center of trade in Tasja was named Ladipela, after a mythical giant's crown, which was said to have incited the giants to war, leading to the destruction of the world before the current one. The city was located near a mountain which was believed to be one of the five spire of the mythical crown.

Ama-Aru was likewise located at the base of a mountain, and the Tasjasi determined that this mountain, being the highest in its range, must be another of Ladipela's spires. This story returned to Tasja, and Queen Marjana determined that the second spire of Ladipela ought to be under the control of Tasja. The crown was of great historical importance, and the people of Bioko, who believed the world to have grown from the corpse of a great seabird, couldn't understand its significance.

If anyone tried to convince her that the whole point of the Ladipela myth was that fighting over the crown condemned the world to ruin, they weren't successful.
