The most salient feature of Loplins is that verbs are obligatorily marked for mood: realis or irrealis. Most core verbs have suppletive forms for the two moods. The infinitive form is a compound of the two roots: realis+irrealis.
Examples:
REALRealis mood (mood) actual, real events | IRRIrrealis mood | INFInfinitive (TAM) non-tensed verb | |
---|---|---|---|
"jump" | lop | lins | loplins |
"see" | ken | mi | kenmi |
"do" | ket | dej | ketdej |
The realis–irrealis split, with suppletion, extends to core adjectives and verbal affixes, both of which are treated very similarly to verbs.
Examples:
REALRealis mood (mood) actual, real events | IRRIrrealis mood | INFInfinitive (TAM) non-tensed verb | |
---|---|---|---|
"good" | haj | ven | hajven |
"cold" | bli | ʒel | bliʒel |
"through" | per | θu | perθu |
(convert noun to adjective) | na | ni | nani |
