Personal PronounsEnglish | Alessian | Pronunciation |
---|---|---|
I | mé | /me:/ |
you | dó | /do:/ |
he | én | /e:n/ |
she | ín | /i:n/ |
it | ish | /ɪʃ/ |
we | amí | /ami:/ |
you | gwí | /gwi:/ |
they | dí | /di:/ |
Possessives
There is no special possessive pronoun in Alessian. Instead, an 'of' ([de] - /də/) is placed before the personal pronoun to indicate possession, i.e. "of me", "of you", etc.
Example:
"My boat" - "(yr) bád de mé"
So here the literal transcription would be "boat of me" or "the boat of me".
However, there are some irregularities with 3rd person singular pronouns (he/she/it) and 1st person plural (we):
English | Alessian | Pronunciation |
---|---|---|
his | d'é | /de:/ |
her | d'í | /di:/ |
its | d'ish | /dɪʃ/ |
our | d'amí | /dami:/ |
The 'n' of [én] and [ín] is gone and for any of those cases the [de] is shortened to [d'], because there would be two vowels in line that do not fit together.
New: Possession can also be indicated by a possessive suffix behind the noun.
Example:
"My boat" - "(yr) bádam".
Literal transcription.
