[comments] [history] On an alternate Earth, humankind emerged on the American continent (Deneh). They lived there throughout the stone-age until the ice age forced them to migrate over the land-bridge connecting Deneh to Edorath. The people had organized themselves into four tribes--Space, Mind, Creatures, and Time. Mind tribe stayed behind in Deneh while the other three tribes went on into Edorath.
When the ice age ended and the land-bridge disappeared, the two continents and its peoples were separated. The three tribes in Edorath spread out and began to build civilizations all over their part of the world, which they came to believe was the entire world as memory of Deneh disappeared from memory. Proto-Edoratha was the common language the peoples spoke for only a few hundred years until the language naturally evolved and split into dialects, and then languages, and then entire language families. Proto-Edoratha has not been spoken for around 10,000 years, and today there are hundreds of languages--each with dozens of dialects--spoken in Edorath that all descend from Proto-Edoratha.
