When making compound words, certain morphological rules must be used, especially when a word ends in a nasal:

Before another nasal:

Assimilates to the second nasal: neŋ 'woman, female' + muzii 'son': nemuzii 'daughter'

Before a stop:

Assimilates to a prenasalized stop: neŋ 'woman, female' + daŋ 'cow (general)': ned̃aŋ 'cow' (female cattle)

Before a prenasalized stop:

Assimilates to the prenasalized stop: egam 'salt' + g̃ia 'white': egag̃ia 'sea salt'
