[edit] [top]Nordic-English Grammar

This is an artistic language I created to use for my writings. I've made many con-scripts, but I got tired of that, so I decided to finally create a con-lang instead. After many failed attempts, I finally decided to use my mother language --English-- and some of my favourite languages --Old Norse, Old English, and Icelandic-- to create one that would be simple for me to learn but will also be unintelligible to anyone who was to read it.

The grammar and syntax I used for this language is borrowed from Old Icelandic, Old English, and their modern counterparts, with most of the grammar from Old & Modern Icelandic and most of the syntax from English. I tried to simplify things a good bit, removing some vowel sounds and changing others. I have taken the near-back vowel [ʊ] and removed it from the phonology, as well as the diphthongs [ai] and [oi]. I also added the front-rounded vowels [y] and[œ]. The consonants have remained relatively the same, with a few adjustments. /J/ is now the velar approximate [j], with the affricate [ʤ] represented by /ġ/, and [ʃ] has been removed completely. Here is a list of the changes to the orthography:
a>[a]
æ>[æ]
c>[k]
ċ>[ʧ]
ð>[ð]
e>[ɛ]
é>[e]
g>[g]
ġ>[ʤ]
ȝ>[x]
í>[i]
i>[ɪ]
o>[ɔ]
ó>[o]
œ>[œ]
ų>[ʌ]
þ>[θ]
y>[y]
v>[ʋ]
au>[au]
ey>[øy]
eu>[eu]
éi>[ei]
éo>[eo]

The letters b,d,f,h,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,w, and z are about the same as English.

[z] is an allophone of /s/, and both q and z, along with x, are only used in foreign borrowings; /t/ can also be replaced with [ʔ], if you'd like.

Unlike English, the doubled consonants are pronounced twice as long, as in mop parts.

A few of the doubled consonants have a different pronunciation, with /ll/ becoming [tl], /nn/ becoming [ʰn], and /mm/ becoming [ʰm] .

The Alphabet From F to Ġ:
Ff Uu Þþ Oo Rr Cc Gg Ww Hh Nn Ii Jj Óó Pp Ȝȝ Ss Tt Bb Ee Mm Ll Vv Œœ Yy Íí Éé Ðð Ċċ Ųų Ġġ
