Nouns

The backbone of any lexicon, the primary content carriers, the most common POS: NOUNS!!! Here's how to use them in Makian.
Nouns themselves don't undergo any changes, all information is shown through postpositions.
[edit] [top]Plurality

Nouns are pluralized through the postposition kho in the nominative. This fuses with the case postposition when present.

kyam "man"
kyam kho "men"

However, the plural marker is not used when another word might suggest plurality:

wi kyam "two men"

Cases are marked using postpositions as well, and they fuse with the plural postposition when applicable. There are two classes of case postpositions: strong and weak. Weak postpositions fuse, while strong just tack on -kho onto the end. You have to memorize which ones are which.

Weak:
(sou: genitive)
kyam sou "man's"
kyam soul "men"

Strong:
(tha: benefactive)
kyam tha "for man"
kyam thakho "for men"

Strong postpositions do not take plural when another word suggests it, but weak ones do.

wi kyam sou "two men's"
wi kyam tha "for two men"

The accusative adpostion, o, is optional, and only used when the word order alone isn't enough to decipher the meaning.
