[comments] Oolana is a country that revolves around water. Oolana is actually based in it. Their city is built on almost 3000 floors of catacombs that reach the bottom of the ocean. The city on top is about the size of New York City. Multiply that by 3000, and you have the actual size.
Long ago, one of the very first sailors went on a trek across the ocean. He was hit by a heavy storm, and went overboard. He sank and died. The Goddess of Bloom, the mother of the God of Fao, (Fao is a magical force that is in every Oolanian) took pity on the sailor, bringing him back to life. They could not bring him to the surface, so they made him a home at the bottom of the ocean. Soon, other sailors joined. Sinking, dying, reviving. They made families, and it became a city. The city grew and grew so much that they wanted to go up. So they built their wall higher, soon breaking to the surface, making a beautiful city on top.
Later, there was a war. The Pyrons, a culture of sacrifice, and fire, ambushed the Oolanians. That was when the God of Water, Tsivishoo, summoned a storm (Which is now fully automated by the Oolanians) The storm rained ice-cold water onto the waters below. Cooling the Pyrons to stone, and churning the waters into Tsunami sized waves. That’s when the God of End, Rwravijoo, put up an invisible barrier, making the waves break before they hit the city. The storm was so dark that the Goddess of Sight, or Avridaoo, gave them light. The light was named Awadewehi. Awadewehi was placed at the tallest tower, where her most trusted advisors stood watching over the city, looking for danger. The Goddess of Life, Nislivoo, knew Oolana was not able to go to others for help now, or even fish. So, she started life in the catacombs, so the people could hunt in their own land.
The King saw the threat the Pyrons faced, and with the fuel of Oonunoo, the God of Fao, he built a magical barrier around the Pyrons' home. Making it so no one could enter or leave. They were cut off from the world, forgotten.
Then the wise, old King passed away. And every time a king passes away, he is given a funeral and brought to the King’s Graveyard, deep in the catacombs. Usually, when Oolanians die, they turn to water. Floating up into the air. And disperse into the rain that still pelts the city of Oolana. But their life drop, the brightest and purest drop in their body, falls down into the God of End’s domain, where that drop waits in a grave to be buried by more of its kind. If someone who knows the deceased being personally finds their gravestone (A small oval shaped stone) and brings it to the surface to touch the rain, that person can live one more lifetime. Then when he or she dies, his or her life doesn't fall. It floats into the sky above, to never be seen again.
A king, however, is buried, so his ghost may forever give advice. Not only does a king get a spectacular funeral, but the Goddess of Life brings three more species of flora or fauna to the catacombs. Sometimes, the new breeds of life would be eaten or stepped on before they could thrive and breed, making them extinct forever.
Once, long ago, the seventh King died, and a plant was born. The plant was able to produce a liquid that cooled instantly to act as spikes, and keep away predators. Those spikes were made of a revolutionary metal, steel.
Though it was thought to be made synthetically, steel was first found in a plant. Later it was stolen by the Atlanteans, then sold to the highest bidder. Sir Henry Bessemer bought it off of the Atlanteans, then found a way to make it more expensive to sell. This metal was refined and used to make the most beautiful of spires that most Oolanians call home today. (Might that be why the word “steel” doesn’t sound like English?)
When a king dies, the God of Fao sends the Goddess of Sight to search for the perfect replacement for the king. A part of Oolanian’s sun breaks off, and goes to all of the citizens, sometimes searching for months before finding the perfect king. Only once has the Goddess’s Sight fooled her. And that was a dark day. The King was cast out to the darkest of the caverns below, Deadcrest, a place of rot and ruin.
The things of Deadcrest infected parts of the caverns, even the old city, (The first settlement of Oolana) People fled, running away, and the people of the surface had to build safe walls. Even the God of End placed his own guards at Deadcrest’s border to keep watch. Some didn’t make it out. There is a myth of a city in Deadcrest, a place where the people who didn’t make it out, retreated, barricading themselves from the rest of the world. They silently waited and in hope of staying safe. Rescue attempts had been made. None succeeded. They only brought more havoc onto the kingdom. The King, therefore, ceased the search and rescue, hoping that a future generation would be able to find their way there. After many Kings passed, the separated parties still hoped to be reunited once again.
The Goddess of Sight looks for weeks before the next King is chosen. Not only does she look, but so does Oonunoo and her servants. She even has her speaker watch over the city from the tallest tower. That person is known as the Watcher. He or she who looks into everyone’s mind, searching for threats to the King. The Watcher could stop an attack or murder before it happens. He could even broadcast things to people, saying stuff in their minds. To some, it is an invasion of privacy, but the Watcher does nothing with personal affairs, he or she keeps everything confidential. Only if it concerts someone else’s life (Especially the King’s) would the Watcher act.
One day, the Demon of Chaos, Gisiboo, was born. Only the gods truly know how it happened, but they say that Oonunoo rejected Gisiboo’s request to be a god, and that man somehow became as powerful as Oonunoo. He claimed the title the Demon of Chaos, and retreated to Deadcrest, brewing unimaginable horrors. Oonunoo tried to fight back and succeeded somewhat, but the demon still haunts the dreams of young Oolanians… and he still waits there, in the deepest part of Deadcrest, shrouded in darkness.
