Proto-Dwarven's inspiration and history

[Public] ? ?
From an early age, I've always had an urge to create. Shape heroes and villains, cities and whole worlds. When I entered my teenage years I became enthralled with fantasy, myths and history. From the Icelandic sagas and folklore to more modern tales of Tolkien, from movies to games, I drew many inspirations. So I decided to make my own fantasy world. I have been working on it since.
Of course it has changed drastically throughout the years, thankfully.
But one thing remained. My urge to create.

I was always infatuated with languages. To me it was and still is the a window into the human psyche, corny as it may seem. So being a fan of Tolkien's work and languages I naturally became interested in his constructed language and naturally I tried to follow his example.
I started making up words, without knowing the basics of phonetics or anything of that sort. I made grammar tables, ridiculous amounts of cases, because back then (and to an extend even know) I thought the more cases a language had the cooler!

In time, like the stories and theme of my fantasy world, the languages and the creative process changed. I started making phonetic inventories, used phonotactics more prominently and so on. Creating a language, as daunting a task as it may have sounded to many of my peers, proved to be an entertaining exercise.

Now, finally, unto the language in question. This language has seen much changed, from being a single language into being a proto-language of many other languages to come. In fact, the first 'draft', so to speak, I used as a subject for my final assignment in junior college.
It had some odd, unexplained irregularities back then and quite different structure.
By the time a friend of mine from uni told me of this site, the language had seen quite the revamp.

Proto-Dwarven (t'urgat'al) is a proto-language of the dwarves that inhabit my fantasy world. It is as simple as that. It's probably the one language I've worked the most on and I have grown quite attached to it. I hope to expand it and further in the coming years and have fun while doing so for that's what this language constructing is all about. Having fun.
