PO overlong vowel verbs become class II, with stem stress and reduced stem and suffix forms. These reduced suffixes, unable to express distinctions with their vowels alone, become reinforced by the pronominal forms again in the present plural and throughout the nonpresent tenses - Stem-stressed verbs.

PO short and long vowel verbs are class I, with suffixal stress - Suffix-stressed verbs. For short vowel verbs, their PO vowel becomes unstressed and is reduced, but recovered in GO from the imperative and adverb forms.

PO IIIa (except for overlongs, which become I) and a few II verbs end up with a hiatus in GO (glottal stop loss); for them the participle that serves as the new base becomes fixes part of the root and is never dropped. These are effectively monosyllabic, non-overlong verbs that nevertheless borrow some forms from the overlong paradigm because of their complex nucleus, leading to reduction in the suffix. Hence they are called complex nucleus verbs. Their vowel harmony is irregular - each complex nucleus verb selects for one single suffix vowel pair (one for mid, one for closed), and which one that is is unpredictable - which warrants subgrouping into a/ə-verbs, o/u-verbs and e/i-verbs, depending on the vowel. Their past forms are 2nd conjugation, their present forms 1st conjugation. In the future, they follow the 2nd conjugation in the plural and the 1st conjugation in the singular.
