Akeyetja, today we will be learning how to make really basic sentences in  Mesyar, we will use basic conjugations of verbs and a few pronouns. At the end of this lesson you should be able to form basic sentences with some vocabulary words that I will show in today's lesson.

Vocab. List

  • Apple - Wafata
  • This - Kiye
  • Be - Kalube
  • My - Mel
  • I - Hane
  • Happy - Wopio
  • A/an - Be

  • Take a minute and go over the list of words above. There are a few nouns, verbs and pronouns.
    Now that you are familiar with some of the words above, let's start making some basic sentences.
    For this first sentences we will try something really simple, "this is an apple".
    To start, we will first list the words that we will use for this sentence:
  • This - Kiye
  • Be - Kalube
  • A/an - Be
  • Apple - Wafata

  • Then we will transfer the verb to the right person and tense, 3rd person singular, present tense. Don't worry about knowing how to conjugate verbs, we will learn that in another lesson.
  • Be - Kalube ---> Is - Ube

  • After doing that we will form the sentence:
    Kiye ube be wafata. /kije ube be wafata/

    As you can see, it follows the same structure as english.
    Now, let's get into more complex sentences. We will try saying "this is my apple".
    Kiye ube mel wafata. /kije ube mel wafata/
    In this case, we substituded "an" for "my".
    Let's make a sentence with an adjective, "I am happy".
    We first have to transfer the verb be to the right person and tense, 1st person singular, present tense.
  • Be - Kalube ---> Am - Lua

  • Now we will form the sentence:
    Hane lua wopio. /hane lua wopio/

    The structure continues to be the same, but in this case you can change the sentence a bit to get it to sound better:
    Lua wopio. /lua wopio/

    We can do that because the conjugation of the verb tells us the person and tense to which the verb is refered to.

    I hope you liked this lesson. Now you can create really simple sentences in  Mesyar , next lesson I will explain basic conjugations of verbs, mainly in present tense. So you should start to become familiar with some verbs from  Mesyar .
    See you in the next lesson, kelesarlo.
