Continuing from Lesson 1a, this time we will expand our vocabulary with more conceptual letters, and one suffix!
Consonant | IPA | Meaning |
c | /s/ | Existence |
h | /χ/ | Mind |
r | /ɾ/ | Action |
These new consonants can give us a few words:
ca /sa/ Existence.
co /sɔ/ Something unknown.
ha /χa/ Thought.
ra /ɾa/ Action.
But so far, all of these words are nouns.
So, let's learn how to create other types of words via affixing!
In (formal) Cirtunese, most words without affixes are nouns.
When using verbs, however, one can use the suffix mr (/-ɐ̆ɾɐ̆/) as a verbaliser.
That's right! It's the letter r turned sideways!
So, here are a few examples:
camr /'saːɾɐ̆/ To exist / be.
comr /'sɔɐ̆ɾɐ̆/ To be something unknown / "What is...".
hamr /'χaːɾɐ̆/ To think.
ramr /'ɾaːɾɐ̆/ To take action.
tamr /'taːɾɐ̆/ To place something here / To be here.
temr /'tɛɐ̆ɾɐ̆/ To place it there / To be there.
tomr /'tɔɐ̆ɾɐ̆/ To be in an unknown place / "Where is...".
lamr /'laːɾɐ̆/ To count / quantify.
romr /'ɾɔɐ̆ɾɐ̆/ What to do / "What are ... doing".
That's the end of this lesson!
Thanks for dropping by!
