Deivo uses the same alphabet as English, with a few extra letters.

Aa Bb Cc Dd Ee Ff Gg Hh Ᵹᵹ Ii Jj Kk Ll Mm Nn Oo Pp Qq Rr Ss Tt Uu Vv Ww Xx Yy Zz Ɔɔ Åå Ææ

Each letter only produces one or two sounds at most, and the spelling is very regular thanks to a recent spelling reform. (Note: dialects other than Central Deivo may have other pronunciations for letters, or more than two).

Vowels
The Deivo alphabet has ten vowel letters, twice as many as in English.

Aa Ee Hh Ii Oo Uu Yy Ɔɔ Åå Ææ

Note that Hh and Yy are always vowels in Deivo, unlike in English.

Each vowel has a short and a long form, depending on what follows the vowel. Some vowels are pronounced similar to English, while others may be completely different.

Some single letter vowels produce two sounds as a diphthong.

Long Aa - [a]
Short Aa - [ↄ]
Long Ee - [eᵊ] (pronounced with a slight schwa following the main vowel)
Short Ee - [ə]
Long Hh - [aɪ]
Short Hh - [a]
Long Ii - [i]
Short Ii - [ɪ]
Long Oo - [u]
Short Oo - [ʌ]
Long Uu - [y]
Short Uu - [ʏ]
Long Yy - [i]
Short Yy - [ɪ]
Long Ɔɔ - [e]
Short Ɔɔ - [ε]
Long Åå - [oᵊ] (pronounced with a slight schwa following the main vowel)
Short Åå - [o]
Long Ææ - [æɪ]
Short Ææ - [æ]

Vowels are short when:
1. Followed by two+ consonants at the end of a word.
- For example: citt (globe), evakng (picture frame)
2. Followed by two+ consonants and another vowel.
- For example: ávti (city), ikrro (sword)
3. At the end of a word.
- For example: ise (cat), branna (tower)

Diacritics

There are three diacritics that can be placed on Deivo vowels.

The acute (´ ) can be placed on all vowels. The acute accent adds an [h] sound to the vowel.

The breve (˘) can be placed on A, E, I, O, U and Y. The breve adds a [j] sound to the vowel.

The grave (` ) accent can be placed on A, E, I, O, U and Y. This is used similarly to the diaeresis/umlaut in French. When used, the grave accent marks that two vowels that would normally be pronounced as a diphthong are pronounced separately. The grave accent is always placed on the second vowel.

Dipthongs

Deivo has many diphthongs. All of them are listed below.

[aɪ] - ai, ay, ei, ey
[oʊ] - ao
[a] - au
[iᵊ] - ea
[o] - eo
[œ] - eu
[aɪɛ] - ie, ye
[əi] - oi
[aʊ] - ou
[εɪ] - ↄi, ↄy
