Flora of Uvanga: An Alphabet Book in Thuun was a popular Kuoggvi alphabet book, featuring notable plants (and fungi) native to Uvanga. It was originally published in 1920 to promote literacy in the newly adopted alphabet.

This version comes with an approximate translation to English and some explanations of local symbolism.

Be careful of pretty things. N is for Rose.





















Rose symbolises adventurousness, but also caution and critical thinking.




Miim mylpäys ja paisus mienet jokkien. T nunuon Tiëpmä.

The cold bite kills stronger and taller trees. T is for Larch.





















Larch is the commonest tree in Uvanga; it symbolises hardship, endurance, tolerance, versatility, and practicality.



Aimus iëmëtäin läiläppö nun ylëtäin ëiäppö. A nunuon Ai.

Better to be good at a lot of things than great at none. A is for Sweetvetch.





















Sweetvetch often symbolises versatility and resourcefulness.




Tyntäisën kiinälën. Ä nunuon Äikölkä.

It grows through rock. Ä is for Saxifrage.





















Saxifrage symbolises leadership, endurance, strength, and toughness.




Ölmö tuojalmaan läil syömä. I nunuon Ikkä.

Many faces cover the same soul. I is for Aspen.





















Aspen symbolises familiarity, patterns, memory, and friendship.



Yömmin laulat ulmiel luoja sii. M nunuon Meil.

The quiet often have a lot to say. M is for Birch.





















Birch symbolises knowledge, wisdom, humbleness, and maturity.




Nuol uolna ja aima lël. P nunuon Pëäl.

The cones are blue and good. P is for Juniper.





















Juniper symbolises utility.

The Other plays with things that bend. L is for Willow.





















Willow symbolises both sexuality and perversion.

A favourite for reindeer. E is for Bluegrass.





















Bluegrass symbolises tolerance, selflessness, and calm.

Raspberry doesn't symbolise anything in particular, but it is very tasty.

Most have six leaves, but some don't. O is for Bunchberry.





















Bunchberry symbolises respect and tolerance.

The eater of the dead is eaten by the living. Ö is for Mushroom.





















Mushrooms symbolise life, death, and cyclical time.



Naaltainen myöinältäänön mullitain. K nunuon Kyöm.

The stubborn die with their ways. K is for Spruce.





















Spruce symbolises steadfastness, but also stubbornness.



Oalmoimainaan juoillan uujat. S nunuon Sua.

Someday it might cover the whole world. S is for Moss.





















Moss symbolises time, age, and inevitability.




Sääl Tietitta mäëmpyötin aima. J nunuon Jaimonoi.

Berries are good along the Long Road. J is for Blueberry.





















Blueberry symbolises hardship and motherhood.



Ulminnitain maimietinnut. U nunuon Ullu.

The unwanted are often needed. U is for Cranberry.





















Cranberry symbolises necessity and practicality.




Täl moppuon iënën kiinälën öppää. Y nunuon Ykä.

It may be a little short, but it grows well. Y is for Alder.





















Alder symbolises love and family.
