Welcome to my first article for Caribbean Patois!(Karibyèn Patwa)

Today, I'll teach you the very simple verb conjugagtions of each tense in  Caribbean Patois.

There are 5 main tenses, which will be the ones were learning today.
Present
Past
Imperfect Past
Future
Conditional

lets start with the Present, the "Presèn".
to conjugate in the present, all you do is take the root away (to=ta), and that's it!
-if you're talking in the present tense- in the "-ing" tense, you would put "bi" in front of the verb, and "-n" at the end of the verb..

Ex. I eat, Mi mansye, Mi bi mansyen

next is the Past. the Pàs.
to conjugate into the past, you add "ja" infront of the desired verb. "ja" means "already", so it literally means you already did something.

Ex. I talked to my boyfriend today, mi ja palè au mi konpanyon sa dèya

now, we are still in the past tense- but a little different. the Imperfect Past, or the "Inpèrfe Pàs." an easier way to think of this tense is the "was doing" something tense.
so to cojugate into this tense, add "wa" infront of the verb. "wa" means "was" in the past tense.

for the second verb, add "-n" at the end of the verb to make the second verb in the present.

another part of the imperfect tense is an action that was reocurring, but has stopped. Or, something that you "used" to do.
Example in English- "I didn't know", you used to not know.

There is a conjugation for this kind of tense, and here it is

for 1st person, singular(mi), add "-èh" at the end of verb.
for 2nd person, singular(tu), add "-ès" at the end of verb.
for 3rd person, singular(you, il, la, sa), add "-èt" at the end of verb.
-
for 1st person, plural(wi), add "-yon" at the end of verb.
for 2nd person, plural(dey), add "-ye" at the end of verb.
for 3rd person, plural(vou, sa), add "-eyèn" at the end of verb.

Ex. I was going to the mall, but now I need to study, mi wa gwan al shopping, ma naw mi beswàn ke estudèh

now let's travel to the Future! or the Futuh
to conjugate to the future, this one is tricky.

for 1st person, singular(mi), add "" at the end of verb.
for 2nd person, singular(tu), add "-as" at the end of verb.
for 3rd person, singular(you, il, la, sa), add "-a" at the end of verb.
-
for 1st person, plural(wi), add "-on" at the end of verb.
for 2nd person, plural(dey), add "-es" at the end of verb.
for 3rd person, plural(vou, sa), add "-eyòn" at the end of verb.
-
if a verb ends in h,è(h),à(h), take off the vowel then add the following endings above.
after taking of the vowel, and if there is still a vowel, just add "-n" and then the future tense ending.

Ex. I'm not going to school next week. mi ne ganè al ekwol sigèn seman

now it's time for the Conditional tense, or the Kondisyonal.
to conjugate into this tense, add "-iya" to the end of the verb. Or "-ya" if verb ends in a vowel
this tense is the "would" tense.

Ex. I would die if a spider ever crawled up my shoulder. Mi mortiya si un arenye subwesi en mi sèpole.

That's all for this lesson!
