Laghenhom is one of the more important Brics of Lowlandia. It sits on the northern border from the sea to the west, going all the way east to Bargefeeld. The federal region was once a Fiefdom known also as Laghenhom.

[edit] [top]Etymology

Laghenhom would translate in English to: Homeland of the Laghens. As a Fiefdom, the noble family of the Laghens controlled the region and spread the local culture far and wide, and for this reason the region was named.

[edit] [top]Linguistics

The vast majority Laghenhomish people speak  Okoatean as their native language. In particular, they will tend to speak a rather conservative dialect known as  Unknown dialect code. This dialect tends to use words that have fallen out of use in modern Lowlandic, and also has a rather complex adjective declension system, that has also fallen out of use in standard Lowlandic. Despite this, most Laghenhomish will also speak and understand standard Lowlandic.

[edit] [top]History

Laghenhom was settled around 1100 AD by a group of newly-christianised Germanic settlers emigrating from the far east, in what is now Paldut. the early forms of government were formed well before other Lowlandic nations were created. For this reason, Laghenhom was able to grow rather large with no rivals. By 1160, this began to change, with more nations such as the Kingdom of Yerrenland being formed. Bargefeeld, Yerrenland, and other nations tended to have kept their old cultures, which became rather divergent from Laghenhom,

Conflicts over religion in these two groups began to rise, and in 1208, the Laghenhom Crusade was launched. Pyhamel and Laghenhom launched heavy war against Yerrenland and Bergefeeld. This crusade ended up to be a pyrrhric victory, as Yerrenland was split, and some territorial gains were made, but not without heavy casualties, much favoring the other side.

A counterinvasion sent the whole group of Lowlandic nations into war against one-another in the 1460s, which lasted 20 years, and this led to a major defeat for Laghenhom and her allies, now Pyhamel and Slaghenhall, and major territorial losses were inflicted. This is the reason, that many people in the northern end of East Yerrenland today speak Lagnic as their dialect.

The unification of Lowlandia in 1679 included Laghenhom, Folcssted, Slaghenhall, East- and Yerrenland, East Eirocland, Pyhamel, and Hagerche. Laghenhom has since been a federal region of the nation of Lowlandia.
