In the society in which Paw̄ápana exists, there is no conventional gender (male/female). Rather, their society values socio-economic position. This is blended with their religious beliefs. These people believe that their god created eight lines of humanity. While biological sex is acknowledged, it is held in the same regard as hair or eye colour.

The genders are as follows:

[edit] [top]Deity - Pahanāʻo - (P.)

Pahanāʻo - great (pa) + being (hanāʻo) - Deity

This gender is to be used when referring to god or gods (from other cultures or faiths).

manō - no/negative (ma) + possession (nō) - without
kanoʻa - evil/wicked (ka) + action (noʻa) - sin/wrongdoing
This gender is used when referring to members of the clergy (priests/pastors, bishops, or other religious leaders).

wōnaha - high (wōna) + soul (ha) - nobility
This gender is used when referring to members of royalty that are positioned beneath the highest royalty. This includes dukes/duchesses, barons/baronesses, etc.

This gender is used for the common citizen. From craftsman to lawyers, anyone that would be considered a middle class or an average citizen (rich to poor) are all considered part of this gender.

Manōkō Hanāʻo - helpless (manōkō) + being (hanāʻo) - peasantry

manōkō - without (manō) + aid (kō) - helpless
This gender is a used for the group of people in society who are usually considered the lower class. This group of people receives government aid, food and monetary donations, and other forms of charity.

This gender is used for the group of people in society who are not considered human or are consider to be created unequal. This is often used to refer to enslaved groups. Unfortunately, it’s also used to refer to animals, planets, celestial bodies and other inanimate objects as well.

- Lānāʻoha - again (lā) + individual (nāʻoha) - a freeman
While not specifically it's own gender, this gender contains members of the Manō Nāʻoha
gender that are given a pardon for whatever reason.

These genders each have their own pronouns! These can be found in the grammar section!

Extra Information:
Later in Pa'oko's history (in the modern era), this gender system changes. The Majesty and Nobility Cases combine to create a Presidential case. Following a social rebellion, the Subhumanity class joins is added to the Peasantry class.
