Originally there was only the nothingness, known as The Eternal Slumber. Then our Mother Sun came into existence and named herself Haqla. She was hotter than any fire and brighter than the all of the stars in the sky, but she was completely alone, alone with only dust encircling her. However, the dust encircling her coalesced to form a being as hot and as bright as she was. She asked who this being was and he replied that his name was Sedi. They became friends and the two whiled away the aeons speaking to one another of the things they saw, heard, and felt. They were both quite glad to have each other as companions and eventually they fell in love. In their love they gave birth to their three sons, the moons, Shurdi, the eldest; Uzzoti, the middle child; and Nnukhi, the youngest.

As time passed, Sedi grew colder and colder and duller and duller. He was not as hot and bright as he used to be when they first met; he was dying. When Sedi eventually did die, Haqla wept and wept over the loss of her lover. It was uncertain for how long she and her sons had grieved and for how long they would continue.

Then-and it wasn't obvious to her at first-she noticed changes on Sedi's body; he became blue, at first only blue, but then also green. She saw water and trees and leaves and eventually animals, the strange things that moved about on their own. The last gift that Sedi had given her was the very majesty of life itself growing on his lifeless body. And so Haqla and her sons took it upon themselves to maintain and protect that which he gave; Haqla would illuminate and warm his body during the day while her sons would illuminate his body during the night.
