Roots in Senthra

Senthra's earliest words were created through so-called "base concepts" - rudimentary, usually easy-to-grasp concepts like "life", "time" or "no". It is assumed that the sounds were associated with their concepts or at least one of the categories (concept combinations) precisely when the sounds were first made by the "inventors" of the language (even before the earliest state of the language we can reconstruct, Proto-Mexic) - the sound "thr", for example, imitates the sound a burning fire makes, while "khr" is similar to ice cracking.

From then on, these concepts expanded and solidified, and even today, Senthra's base vocabulary has mostly remained unchanged due to early standardisation and the importance of these concepts to the speakers of Senthra.

Most of the following words were created on-the-spot and, as expected, there are a lot of overlaps between the categories, depending on what concept the speaker needed to emphasise at the given moment (e.g. "comrade", "together" and "everyone" being in three separate categories). However, learning these concepts may prove to be very helpful to learners of Senthra.

One-concept words:
  • S (nature, spirituality): sa (nature), so (world, now obsolete)
  • L (not) - often "unknown" as a final: le (no), lu (negation affix)
  • N (here, life): nu (here), ni (life), na (breathe), nio (breath)
  • M (spirit, intellect): me (idea, opinion), mio (think, opine), myo (understand), ma (intellect)
  • X (body, effort): xa (body), xi (effort)
  • Kh (create, give birth): khe (produce), khio (create)
  • Y (now, time): ya (now), yio (time), ye (that [conj.])
  • Th (places, directions): the (place), thi (space)
  • R (great things): ra (big, great)
