[edit] [top]Causative Derivation

Evvānsk uses a causative derivation system similar to other Germanic languages (in some ways) to create new words. For any word which is to be made causative, first the preterite stem of the verb must be found. This can be done by conjugating the verb to the past tense 1st person plural and removing the final -om. Thus, a word like alexxwu would give the preterite stem alixxw-. If there is a glide at the end of the word, it is removed and replaced with -i (alixxi-). Then, the causative suffix -ju is added to the word (alixxiju). Finally, if the word had a glide before and thus now has the suffix -iju, and the past tense stem vowel was short, it will be dropped (ālxiju). The following chart gives a series of verbs and their causative derivations.
