Syllable StructureSyllable structure is minimally V and maximally CCVC. Awatese does not have diphthongs, and Mañi diphthongs shifted to consonant clusters with approximant consonants in Awatese.
Stress informationStress is variant and mostly free. Usually, low tone syllables in Mañi end up stressed in Awatese.
OtherNasals in Mañi underwent sound changes to Awatese in which vowels before a word-final nasal consonant became nasalized vowels. However, original nasal consonants remain written in the orthography, although unpronounced and assimilated into the preceding vowel.

Additional NotesAwating was a satellite state of the Helsonian Union for decades and thus uses the Terminian script and order. Despite this, the modern Awatese orthography, or at least its meta-romanization, is based on that of Mañi and, to an extent, reflects the historical sound changes from Mañi to Proto-Awato-Mänean to Awatese. See documentation "From Mañi to the Awato-Mänean languages" for more info. There is also a native script that was historically used to write Awatese; for more information see the article "The ancient Awatese script".
