About Canecano
Future project
-Language isolate spoken on an island in the South China Sea
-extremely analytic/isolating proto-lang that evolved into agglutinative modern form
-exclusively CV syllable structure
-Currently written with a featural syllabary
- 3-tone system technically, but historically, Canecano linguists haven't considered mid/atonal (depends on analysis) as a valid tone.
-Nouns decline for case, number and definitieness
-Verbs conjugate for evidentiality, mood, voice, tense, aspect and mirativity
-Since the possession marker is mutually exclusive with case marking, 2 cases can be forced onto 1 noun.
-Used to use chinese characters, which was easy with Old Canecano, but became impractical as the language became more agglutinative, then used a missionary-invented syllabary based on rotated Latin capitals, then the current script (Càroþícanìto) was invented by King Càroþícena in the early 1700s as part of an effort to combat the influence of Christianity, THEN they had hiragana and katakana forced on them during WW2 before finally settling on a reformed Càroþícanìto.
-Tonal, Proto and Old Canecano had both voicing distinctions and CVC structure (CV(C)C in protolang) that were lost
-Simple but strange phonology
