About Beoǧǧen
Beoǧǧen (tongue/language of the bay) is a relatively small language spoken by the inhabitants of Pontau’s (Beoǧǧen: brupoǧor big-land) southern coastal region, on the Pontau Gulf (Beoǧǧen ǧoun sea/ocean or EL noanií warm-sea). It is descended from Proto-Prahan, via Gulfic, a language family that includes Island and the North Anán languages.
Though few in speakers compared to it’s northern neighbour Lartau, a strong ethnic identity and economic independence means Beoǧǧen has remained relatively free of Lartautian influence, outside of a vocabulary borrowing. (Lartautian for it’s part is highly resistant to borrowing of any sort, perhaps for similar reasons). Furthermore, political division of speakers into relatively autonomous city states means a broader than expected range of dialects for the geographical area.
