About Numi
Numi is a personal artistic language. I'm creating it based on factors that appeal to me in a language and I use it to describe my daily life. I aim for quasi-realism but am not concerned about how naturalistic it is. Some of the language’s features:
I write what I have decided about Numi into articles with lots of examples and glosses, so take a look at those if you want to know more.
- Borrows the phonology of Japanese, with some modifications for my own taste
- Written using hiragana, again with some slight modifications (if you read it as if it were Japanese, you won't be too far off)
- Tripartite morphosyntactic alignment (because I hadn't tried it before and it seemed like fun)
- Polysynthetic, with both full noun and classifier noun incorporation and marking of time and space locatives on verbs
- Verbs agree with both subject and object, and pronouns are almost always dropped
- Extensive use of passive and antipassive voices
- Default VSO word order, and strongly head-initial overall
- Clause chaining is a common structure in discourse used to string together clauses with the same actor
- Portmanteaus abound!
