Syllable StructureSok'al has a maximum syllable structure of CVC/CC#. In medial positions, cross-syllabic clusters consisting of fricative/affricate+/l/ and /l/+plain-plosive are permitted. However, CC can only occur at the end of a word with any obstruent beside /v/ and /l/, such as ashel [aʃl]. e is written between these word final clusters. Out of the fricatives {v, s, ʃ, x}, v cannot serve as a coda or cluster, and x cannot end a word.
Stress informationInitial syllable except for the occasional loan word.
