About Edilese
Introduction
Edilese (know natively as Edilesk ponøde [eðˠileɧ pʰonøðˠ]) is a language belonging to the European Santaroni branch of the Santaroni language family. Its sister languages are
Santaroni and
Farian and it descended directly from
Proto-Santaroni. Its phonology is not very conservative and tends to be very different from other Santaroni languages and the grammar is very simplified. It is spoken in Denmark and, although most of its words come from Proto-Santaroni, it has many borrowings from other languages, specially from Danish.
Grammar
The grammar of the Edilese language is very straightforward and, unlike other Santaroni languages, it lost its case inflections and the person and number ending for verbs, but gained definite and indefinite articles which aren't present in other Santaroni languages. The definite article is formed by adding the ending {-/ist/} to the noun (this ending comes from the
Proto-Santaroni demonstrative pronoun *istes), so that øndre-Ø means "man" and øndre-st means "men".
