About Hanitlami

Hanitlami (Shemika /ɕɛmika/) is a language spoken by the Hanitlam (pl: Hanitlam), a mermaid species, primarily inhabiting the seas to the likes of tropical Pacific Ocean. "Hanitlam" derives from their Lithian name, meaning "sentient merfolk" or literally "first merfolk", although Hanitlam don't share the same conworld with Lithian's. (sth to do with tteku's love of pretty names) They call themselves She, or in common parlance, Ne.

In a nutshell: "Flowery" grammar: ERG-ABS with 11 cases, 4 animacy classes, 37+4 base phonemes, free word order (VSO in principle), and wild onset klustres.
» A mermaidly vocabulary: "land reef", "diving in air", ...
» A bit aesthetically inspired by Japanese. b-but why is /kʰ/ ch instead of kh?? dammit tteku you langstheticist
» 5 base vowels + 28 base consonants + 4 geminates. Syllable coda is always either open or of liquid cons (m n ng l). The onset on the other hand... /pt/ /ɸt/ /mpʰ/ /ɸn/ /ŋkt͡ɕmi/
» Four classes: most nouns default to one, and it may be promoted or demoted, changing its semantics. Full article....
» Agglunating - such long words such as Meiagakinnahipami could happen. "And (S) shall be able to make (O) exist, someday; and-exist-CAUSCausative (valency/mood)
cause an action to occur, force another argument to act
-FDISDistant future (tense)
something that will happen far into the future
-CAPCapability (mood)
'can'
-SBJVSubjunctive mood (mood)
desired or possible events
".
» Aaaaand, it's a long story. Hence the need of articles, I guess.
come on tteku
