About Himmaswa
Himmaswa 樒目語 is an analytic and somewhat isolating language spoken by the subjects of the Himma Kingdom, centre of the Himma Empire and the lands of Swamperia.
Some quick facts about Himmaswa:
- primarily monosyllabic/sesquisyllabic roots
- great variety of permitted syllable-initial consonant clusters
- complex vowel system includes seven base vowels modified by four types of diphthongs/triphthongs, and four types of phonation/length, nearly always overlapping, resulting in 38 distinct vowel phonemes.
- syntax governed by topic-comment structure
- syntactic ordering is primarily head-initial
- nominative-accusative alignment
- base word order is SVO
- pro-drop (subjects and objects)
- no overt tense marking, but has extensive aspect and mood auxiliaries
- no passive voice; such focus shifting is handled instead through topicalization
- frequent compounding of both nouns and verbs
- employs both sequential and simultaneous serial verb constructions
- regular plural generally unmarked, but makes use of associative plural
- written in a logographic script
I'd like to write some articles on this language, but I'm not sure which aspects of the language to start with. If anyone is particularly interested in reading about any aspect of Himmaswa, let me know.
