Syllable StructureSyllable structure in the Laajëërëv includes one or more onset consonants, a nucleus formed by short or long vowel, and optionally a single-consonant coda. Initial syllables of a word can have a null onset.
Thus following patterns are considered legal: (C)V, (C)VC, CCV, CCVC.
Stress informationIn multisyllable words stress falls on a second syllable of a word unless nucleus of a first syllable is a long vowel, in which case it becomes a stressed syllable instead.
Word formation can shift stress from its position in a root word.
    OtherVowel Harmony
Vowel harmony separates the vowels with front-back and rounded-unrounded opposition for back vowels. It is determined by the first vowel of the stem, thus a word can include front (/i/, /y/, /e/, and /œ/), back rounded (/u/ and /ɔ/), or back unrounded vowels (/ɨ/, /ə/, and /ɑ/).
As exception to that, neutral /ɑ/ is considired opaque for spreading vowel harmony, but itself spreads back unrounded harmony for the rest of a word.
