About Gezirene
Gezirene is a Notosinsular language. It is the national language of the Gezires and is also the official language of the country. It is a standardised variety of Ilenapo based on the dialect, spoken and written, in Nivas, the national capital, and in other urban centres of the archipelago. It is further enriched and developed by the other languages of the Gezires as mandated by the 1870 Constitution.
It is spoken as a first language by the ethnic Ilenapo people, who make up a quarter of the population, and as a second language by the majority.
