About Modern Tongue
The Modern Tongue, or de Iteloge Nowernve (/de i'teloge ŋo'veɾŋwe/), is the language artificially created by the Soxanites to serve as a lingua franca in the Lands of Harmony. It has become the native language in Soksan, and its Feordhian dialect has become the predominant language spoken in Yrhogzul, though other autochtonous languages are still spoken in most of its regions. Kanrakians are taught the Modern Tongue as a foreign language. The Soxanite society highly values linguists and language teachers, and its government routinely sends them abroad to teach the other races.
Since its inception, it has incorporated words and sounds from many other languages, and its writing system can express almost any phone spoken in the Lands of Harmony.
The language is extra-diegetically transliterated into the Latin alphabet, though a simplified English transliteration also exists: compare the former "yrhogzulere" (/ʒʒ͡ɹogzu'leɾe/) with the latter "Rhoxuler" (in RP, /ɹɒ'ksʊlɜː/).

[edit] [view] Nowernve Fëordherve (Feordhian Modern)Feordhian Modern, or Nowernve Fëordherve (/no'veɾnwe fʝor'ðeɾwe/), is a variety of the Modern Tongue spoken mainly in Fëordh and the Eastern coast of Yrhogzul. Due to the prominence of the Rhoxuler capital and other predominantly Yrhogh settlements, it is also referred to as Rhoxuler Modern. As a result, most Rhoxulers are assumed to speak this dialect, though the Western half of the country tends to speak Haoljeng Modern and/or the Dzul language.
[edit] [view] Nobeenvej Haöljeñrhej (Haoljeng Modern)Haoljeng Modern, or Nobeenvej Haöljeñrhej (/no'be:nwei̯ hao̯'λẽʐei̯/), is a variety of the Modern Tongue spoken mainly in Haöljéñ and the Western region of Yrhogzul. It is normally spoken with longer pauses between syllables, and with longer stressed syllables. Though they spell words the same was as in the Eastlands, Haoljeng Modern is almost always transliterated phonetically by Saxonites due to the authoritative descriptive nature of the Modern Institute.
[edit] [view] Nobhèrnöe Korçöe (Korzjan Modern)Korzjan Modern, or Nobhèrnöe Korçöe (/nɔ'βəɾnw̝ɛ 'kɔrs̺w̝ɛ/), is a variety of the Modern Tongue spoken by the Korzjan Nomads. It serves as the lingua franca of the nomad caravans, and presents a vocabulary heavily influence by orc, dwarven and elven languages. Though they spell words the same was as in the Eastlands, Korzjan Modern is almost always transliterated phonetically by Saxonites due to the authoritative descriptive nature of the Modern Institute.
