About Mañi of Magali Mañi, also known as Máñi or Mañi of Magali, is the largest language of the Passionfruit Islands of northern Magali, an autonomous region.

Check out the (messy) grammar sketch!

A descendant of  Mañi, or perhaps a descendant of a close relative of it. It is the most divergent Mañiic language, being spoken near its supposed Urheimat in northern coastal Magali. However, it is not the most innovative Mañiic language, as it has preserved almost all nominal morphology and its verbal morphology is closely cognate for the most part with that of Mañi.

Its classification has been a matter of hot contention among linguists, as the language has borrowed extensively at various points in its history from other Ngerupic languages as well as an unknown substrate, and shares more in common typologically with languages of northwestern Magali than other Mañi descendants.

Mañi of Magali has one of the most complex declensional systems of any Ngerupic language, with nouns declining for case, alienable pronominal possession, inalienable possession, definiteness, number, diminution, noun class (there are 4) and specificity. Affixes have many allomorphs, including metathesized variants, and tone alternations are commonplace.

In comparison, its verbal system is one of the simplest out of any Mañiic language, with only a single argument marked, and TAM marked through circumfixes and tonal changes.

Highlights include:
  • Minor syllable prefixes
  • Tonal marking of plurality
  • Three-way singular/plural/'generic' nominal system
  • Partial reduplication for verbal aspect
  • Innovation in the numeral system involving prefixed m-
  • Spatial system oriented on an ocean-inland axis and a clockwise-counterclockwise axis

It is written in a very spring-y script devised by @Loglorn .
