About Rttirri Rttirri (English: /ˈtɪəri/) is the official language of Rttirria, a Southeast Asian country situated on a peninsula bordering Burma to the southwest. As part of the traditional Indosphere, Rttirri has a series of retroflex consonants and lots of Sanskrit and Arabic loanwords (and has, more recently, taken on many from English). However, Rttirri is genetically unrelated to the Indo-Aryan, Tai-Kadai, Austroasiatic, Sino-Tibetan, etc. languages spoken nearby.

Rttirri is a head-marking polysynthetic language with ergative-absolutive alignment, and has the unusual feature of marking the person and number of the causative agent (in causative constructions) on the verb, just like the agent and patient. Verbs also inflect for evidentiality and a variety of moods and feature noun incorporation, with the option to "elaborate" on the noun with adjectives, determiners, possession, etc. outside the verb complex. Rttirri morphology is fairly transparent, with only a few fused affixes and little vowel harmony. Standard word order is Verb / (Causative Agent) / Ergative / Absolutive, and modifiers follow nouns. There is no grammatical gender or clusivity distinction.

The vowel inventory is small, consisting of only the common cardinal vowels /ɑ i u/ plus the uncommon /ø/; there are no phonemic distinctions for length, tone, or nasality. However, the vowels /e o/ are allowed in loanwords, and since many of them (e.g. kitepe "book", from the Arabic "kitaab") are centuries old and well-integrated into the language, these vowels are arguably becoming legitimate phonemes. The consonant inventory is average-sized, but is unusual in lacking phonemic voicing distinctions (although stops, fricatives, and affricates are optionally voiced intervocalically) and the fricative [s], while featuring a full five ejective consonants.
