About Sumii Sumii, as it is in the setting of my w.i.p. novel The Sea Sings, is a fairly recent language, spoken in the arctic country of Saumalt. Though both Drenmærni and Sumii are descended (distantly) from the same ancestral tongue, they are almost wholly different languages from the standpoint of their lexicons. Sumii is a relatively primitive language, with its only writing system existing solely for carving into stone to create monuments (though some Sumes have taken up learning to write).
