About Bukeo
A Koreanic language spoken by approximately 14,000 in central and southern Primorsky Krai, Russia. Its closest (and only) relatives are Korean and Jeju. Speakers of southern Middle Korean varieties began to settle in the Hamgyong province in northeastern Joseon from at least the 17th century, who then continued north of the Tumen river into Manchu-speaking areas in the present-day Russian Far East.
It has preserved some aspects of Middle Korean, including some initial consonant clusters and word-final offglides as well as cognate sets considered obsolete, dated or pejorative in modern Korean; it has also been phonologically and lexically influenced by Russian, Manchu, Udege, and Nanai.
