About Ba'ul
Inspired by the Ba'ul race of Kaminar in the Star Trek Universe (Star Trek: Discovery), I wanted to create them their own language. They are a water-dwelling species with a ghostly warp and weft, and that is why I created this language's phonology to have no plosives. As well as ghostly, I wanted it to sound watery. Hence the vast array of fricatives in the phonology.
The Ba'ul were a misunderstood species. After living in fear for centuries, they invented the concept of 'The Great Balance' to terrify and oppress their predators, the Kelpians. After learning that their 'coming of death' process, known as Vaharai, was in fact a transition and not a descent into madness, the Kelpians and the Ba'ul formed an unlikely, if tenuous, alliance under the guidance of Starfleet captain Saru, who, whilst aboard the USS Discovery, survived his own Vaharai.
