About Vette
Spoken by an original con-society conquered by Proto-Germanic speaking Space Vikings ~1000 BCE. It makes sense, I swear.
They call themselves Naemá, but were named wihtiz by the Space Vikings, the name descends to us as wight in English, vættur in Icelandic, and vette in Norwegian. They are the origin of the 'wight' in Scandinavian folklore. I chose the Norwegian spelling because it sounds better...
The names of the culture/ethnicity and the language are identical.

Features:
- Polysynthetic
- Tripartite
- EXTREMELY head final
- No number distinction even in pronouns
- Seven cases
- Five tenses but no aspect
- Extensive use of verbal nouns and participles for derivation
- Technically no noun incorporation, though there are a large number of verbal suffixes which more or less do the same thing
- Adpositions are suffixes which can also be added to verbs as applicatives
- Aesthetics take precedence over realism

Deserves it! I dare say he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.[view all texts]

Additional NotesThe Latin orthography only exists for meta purposes and is not actually used in-universe. Tone patterns are indicated with the letters 's, r, l, ɂ, n, t' at the end of the word. Since Vette has no phonemic syllable-final consonants, there is no ambiguity. Geminate consonants are doubled, and vowel length uses acute accents.
In the runic spelling, vowel length is shown with dots. Geminate consonants are either doubled or ligatured. The consonants /ʃ/ and /s/ are written identical, as are /ʔ/ and /h/. Tone is not indicated.
Several runic letters are only used in loanwords. In Standard Vette these are pronounced like native phonemes, aside from ⟨ᛈ⟩, but in Colloquial Vette they are pronounced like their Asgardian counterparts. In the Latin orthography, words are spelled as they are pronounced, regardless of their etymology.
There have been attempts to either reform the runic spelling or replace it with a new script that better fits the language, but nothing has caught on.
