Etymology
Old Sutti: -t
The singular and plural definite forms of Modern Sutti are both from the same Old Sutti suffix. The differences is because in early modern Sutti, after the consonant shift /t/ > /ts/, a paragogic vowel was adding to the original plural form, resulting the plural definite form being -iato and the singular definite form being -izo
The consonant shift /t/ > /ts/ did not take place in word-final position or after another consonant, resulting the -t form in the plural definite form unaffected by the shift, while the singular definite form was affected, which yielded the -izo form for singular and -iat form for plural; later the use of paragogic vowel changed the -iat form to -iato, yielding the modern -iato form for plural. Notes
the -ino form is used in some dialects
