verb [SbV] state-of-being verb nen nen
[ne̞n]*
be
(to exist)
Aethi Source Language: Old Isaani, Taréil
Etymology
This verb's highly irregular, diverse set of conjugations originate from several separate verbs in older languages: "lann" (to be) and "vinnan" (to become) in Old Isaani, and "lorh-" (to be) in Taréil.

The infinitive itself, "nen", is a contraction of Old Isaani "yn lann", itself a fossilized, archaic infinitive form dating back in its origin to Proto-North Isaani or potentially earlier.

The original word "lann" is still technically a valid synonym for "nen", but is generally considered archaic or overly formal. Additionally, the digraph "nn", originally pronounced [nʲ], lost its palatalization by the era of Modern Isaani, so "lann" is now pronounced identically to "lan", the modern word for "is", creating potential confusion.
Notes
The "vi" imperative, from now-archaic "vinan" (get, become), is more common than the "nu" imperative.
