From Proto-Slavic *děti

As in Old Polish. Partially replaces modern Polish czynić, wykonywać, wykańczać, dziać się, wydarzać się, podziewać się, nadziewać, nadawać imię/przezwisko, rzec, etc. False friends with modern Polish dziać ("to knit")
