noun
salin
[salin]
salt (NaCl)
[salin]
salt (NaCl)
Etymology
From English 'saline', etc. Notes
This works in the same grammatical way as asoka 'sugar', so I've copied that explanation below:
In the singular form (asoka), it refers to a single grain of sugar.
In the plural form with no numeral (asokase), it refers to the English mass/uncountable noun 'sugar'.
If there's also a numeral (e.g. fe asokase 'three sugar'), it means 'three grains of sugar'.
If you want to express that you want three sugars in your coffee, you'd have to use a quantifier like "fe katofidise ov-asokase" ('three cubes of sugar').
Of course, in casual speech "fe asokase" would most likely be understood as 'three cubes/spoons of sugar' and not 'three grains of sugar', because the former makes more sense in the context of coffee drinking.
