Ergativity in vereskic occurs when the verb addressing the object of the sentence is a transitive verb.
This can be seen in the phrase: "Čer zàmphǒni dhô sima igàzôdhe." - "I will make a new home."
zàmphǒni is the future tense form of zàmphǒ (make), which is a transitive verb. Since home (igàzô) is the object being made, it is here put in the absolutive case. igàzôdhe is the absolutive form of igàzô.

Note that while the subject in an ergative sentence would usually be in the ergative form, the pronoun čer does not conjugate, and as such does not change form.
