Overview
The Suntra (who, upon first contact, referred to themselves as nelSuntra, lit. "we are Suntra", leading humanity to believe that this was their species' name for some time) are a race of humanoid aliens with copper-based biochemistry, as opposed to the Earth norm of carbon. They are altogether more metallic than humans, with skeletons composed of a copper alloy (the metal with which it is alloyed is as yet unknown) that allows their bodies to conduct a force that they refer to as magic. The Suntra have warmly-toned, slightly blue-tinted skin, and vivid blue eyes. They have three fingers and a thumb on each hand and four toes on each foot, and as such count using an octal system. They do not possess hair of any kind. The concept of gender is not present in Suntra society, as any individual can reproduce with any other, and reproduction is not a taboo subject as it is for humans. The majority of Suntra communities follow a political model best described as democratic socialism.

Biology
The Suntra are primarily based on copper; compounds and alloys thereof form most of their bodies. Their blood is blue, similar to certain molluscs and arthropods on Earth, due to their blood cells containing haemocyanin. They have a heart and two lungs, much like humans, although the Suntra heart is in the centre of their chest rather than to the left. Their digestive system is similar to ours, although (whilst they are still technically omnivorous) the Suntra do not need to eat meat at all, and most avoid it. Their skin is somewhat tougher than that of humanity, and smoother due to a total lack of hair. The Suntra evolved in a warm climate and mostly remained there as a species; on their homeworld, few communities exist in climates colder than Earth's Mediterranean. Their bones, teeth and nails are composed of a strange alloy, the closest thing to elemental copper in their bodies, and therefore they conduct heat easily, preferring to stay in consistently warm areas so as not to cool down rapidly and die. Suntra teeth are overall more flattened than ours, thanks to millennia of being used primarily to eat plant matter, although they do still possess meat-tearing canines - only two, on the upper jaw, with socket-like indented teeth on the lower jaw recieving them when the mouth is closed.
