How names work
This public article was written by [Deactivated User] on 1 Mar 2019, 21:05.

[comments] Surnames:
Like with humans, given years ago for defining features or characteristics such as place of origin etc and now used to keep track of different people with the same name and so on

Given Names:
Given to Mec of any kind, even half Mec, at birth. These names are of the unisex, male and female variety though some have shifted into this system due to the suppression of previously recognised genders before occupation from Igletic empires. Nowadays the original uses are coming back due to a social push.

Chosen Names:
Originally used by leaders to distinguish themselves, these names are now becoming more free and easy with most becoming unisex and no longer just an upper class tradition. In some areas chosen names are used for the rest of the individual's life with their given name only being used before they deem themselves able to decide their own name, others continue using their given name, often in these areas the chosen name is used as it is deemed more true to the individual which dates back to an old belief that the name of an individual controls their path in life, it is even recorded that in antiquity some children would not be named for fear from their parents of controlling where their life would lead, instead referring to their child as Īvi/Fyþi (meaning my child/our child) some still hold this belief but it is rare to see in modern times.

Nicknames:
Given throughout life or also as shortened versions of given or chosen names for brevity.
