Personal Pronouns
There are six pronouns that occur in both long and short forms. The short forms, or clitic forms, do not carry emphasis.
There is no distinction between masculine and feminine pronouns, but there is a distinction between animate and inanimate pronouns. Etymologically, all of the pronouns are of Dutch origin with the exception of the third person plural pronoun which comes from the Yoruba language of West Africa. There is also no distinction between subject and object pronouns.
