About Cirtanian Cirtanian is a Romance language located on the island of Cirtania (native Χιρταων) near Greece. Unlike other Romance languages, Cirtanian split off from Classical rather than Vulgar Latin. Although it did, for the most part, parallel the changes of Vulgar Latin until it was isolated by the fall of Rome in 427 AD, several aspects of Latin remained that were lost in most other Romance languages. These include: long/short vowel distinction (long vowels were eventually lost, but they changed differently than short vowels e.g. ā > au, a > a), cases and declension (although the genitive and ablative cases merged with the dative, and the fourth and fifth declensions merged with second and third, and a large amount of third declension nouns merged with second) and the neuter gender. Due to its location, Cirtanian was heavily influenced by Greek, borrowing several words and even some morphological patterns. Though Hellenist influence was almost negligible at first compared to other parts of the empire, it greatly increased after Constantine declared the east and western empires of Rome, and even more so when the western half collapsed.
